Unstoppable

Pauly and I watched a new movie tonight - Unstoppable.
IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0477080/
It is about a runaway freight train carrying dangerous chemicals, a train that "got away" because of the operator's gross negligence, a train that will annihilate a town if nobody stops it in time.
Two mega-hunks star in: Denzel Washington (The bone collector, Deja Vu, Out of time - just to name a few) and Chris Pine (the latest and, by far, the funniest Star Trek of 2009) and they entertain from start to finish. The movie will keep you at the edge of your seat pretty much the whole time, [here be spoilers!!! read past this point only if you don't mind them]

and it has a happy ending (a bit predictable but sweet, regardless) - the town is saved, both men survive and it looks like one gets reunited with the estranged wife and son, and the other gets a new girlfriend - how cool is that! :)

I must say, a couple of moments were just a tad too uncomfortable like the last second rescue of the two horses from the trailer, before said trailer became a pile of splinters after being hit by the train; that was really close.  Before you ask: yes, I am extremely sensitive to animal suffering.  Another moment is when the soldier, who just returned from the tour of duty, is killed in a instant while attempting to lower onto the train from a chopper - kind of sad scene there.  But, besides several heroes, there are some despicable characters, too: Galvin (the "boss"), a gutless, spineless asshat who wants to stop the train by derailing it, despite the enormous damage and bodycount this will result in, and a guy (forgot the character name) who appears to be a CEO (or equally high up in the food chain), who, upon receiving the news of the runaway train, does not even bother to leave his golf game and is only concerned if his stock will take a hit or not.
Oh well, there are assholes in every company; you might have even worked with one, or for one, but... back to the movie...

"Unstoppable" is a fast paced, (Tagline: 1 million tons of steel. 100,000 lives at stake. 100 minutes to impact), action packed adrenaline pumper that will have you root for the decent, hard working men and cheer for their victory over the steel beast, and beaurocracy. Worth watching!
