Lie to me. I need the practice :)

My latest fovorite tv show is "Lie to me", featuring "The Lightman Group" - a team of deception detection specialists aka. human lie detectors.  The show might portray fictitious perps and situations but it is not a fiction show.  The character of Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) is based on a real person, Dr. Paul Ekman, a notable psychologist and expert on body language and facial expressions at University of California, San Francisco.

Wikipedia on "Lie to me":
Lie to Me (titled as Lie to me*) is an American television series that premiered on the Fox network on January 21, 2009. In the show, Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) and his colleagues in The Lightman Group accept assignments from third parties (commonly local and federal law enforcement), and assist in investigations, reaching the truth through applied psychology: interpreting microexpressions, through the Facial Action Coding System, and body language.

Ron Paul is awesome.

This is not new but I feel it should be shared.
I wish he was our man in Canada... so many people feel the exact sentiment what Ron Paul said in his speech (and that's just one of the speeches I happened to listen to). He is so right on the issue - make the politicians and their families - wife, kids, mother, father, you name it - make them get groped at the airports every time they fly somewhere, even on the AF1. Give them cancer, or sterility, by getting them to go through the full body scanners. Why the hell not? Are they better than the people who elected them? And how else will they find out how their citizens "feel" about these blatant sexual assaults in the name of false security?

Missing the giant picture!

OK, here's a link for ya:

http://www.cnn.com/2011/OPINION/01/20/parikh.childhood.immunizations/index.html?hpt=T2

I have read what this pharmatool had to say and I am outraged.
He has not only completely missed the point MANY doctors are desperately trying to make known that vaccines are NOT preventing anything.  He has the audacity to put the blame on us - healthy people who care about their (and their families) health, and therefore are getting educated on the many dangers of vaccines.
He goes on to make reference to two characters of, dare I say, questionable moral qualities:  dr. Paul "For Profit" Offit - a hardcore vaccine proponent with much to lose financially from not selling vaccines he has patents to, and would love to see us all rot in hell for not taking it up the arse from the big pharma, and this other guy, Seth Mnookin - who has no medical degree of any kind; he is a journalist, and a former junkie.  Yeah, like I am going to take my cues from those two.
Same old pharma scare tactic but now with a new twist - make us pay (more) for their fuckups! And he calls himself a doctor!
His relationship with pharma must be very satisfying, financially, that is.

Fashion vs Elle

Or should I just call it Fashionelle?
It would be quite fitting, actually... and, unfortunately.

A year ago I gave into temptation and subscribed to Elle.  The first issue I received was not bad - nice spread, good quality color eye candy, a couple of interesting articles, and loaded with perfume scratch'n'sniffs.  It even had one actual 1ml sample, albeit of much hated (not by me) Womanity by Thierry Mugler.

On the subject of Womanity...

I want raw milk!

So why is my government dictating me what I can or cannot eat / drink?

I want raw milk!
I am sick and tired (hey, pun intended!) of being denied what is good for me, what my body wants to stay healthy, and what I am used to from way back when, the Polish way.  And raw milk is one of those things we (the whole family, adults, kids, and the cat) used to drink full 4 liters of daily.  If we did not want to have that much milk in a day, I'd let it stand on the kitchen table til the afternoon, to go sour.  Then I'd warm it up on the stove ("rolling" warm heat only) in a big pot, strain it through a cheese cloth, and enjoy a delicious and fresh "bialy ser" straigh up, or in various dishes and desserts like nalesniki, pierogi, or cheesecake, just to name a few.

The milk was raw, bottled in glass bottles with aluminum caps (unfortunately, but the contact with milk was minimal, only if you stored the bottles on their sides).  We drank it daily and nobody ever got sick from it.  Or of it, either.  I want that back!

Happy 2011!

Looking back at 2010, I'd say it was a good year.

I managed to do some small "budget" renos to the house and, in the process, became a DIY landscaper, gardener, painter and electrician and, although I ran into some snags and swore at them like a sailor, I enjoyed 99% of the process.
My hubby got to work for a company than not only cares for their employees and the clients, they also show it, and they show it frequently.  How often can you say these days that your employer values and appreciates you?  How often can you say these days that your employer even gives a shit about you and you are not just a(n employee) number to them?
Our furry kids are all healthy and thriving.  And our grown-up human kids are staying out of trouble.
That's most than a lot of people have these days...  and we all feel blessed with and grateful for what we have, and what we are.  We also hope the good fortune will keep rolling in during the 2011.

Happy New Year and best wishes  - may only the good stuff take place in your lives in 2011!
Be healthy, wealthy and wise - eat the right foods, take vit.D supplement, and laugh as often as you can.
Dress for the weather, eat raw garlic and fresh fruits, and avoid flu shots like a plague.
Drive slower and be mindful of all the people you share the road with, and never, ever, EVER drink and drive.
Be thankful, be grateful and keep dreaming - if you dream it, it will come, eventually.  Have faith and patience, and... in the epic words of Bill and Ted:
Be excellent to each other and... Party on, dude!!!

Love always,
jedikitty

Our cat loooves presimmons

You know how cats sometimes just love to eat something that is not a common item in their diet? Well, here we have another fine example of such odd eating habit: out cat, Stinky, loves persimmons.
Stinky Jarvik Gil
Over a number of years, we have had cats that were crazy for peanut butter, canned sweet peas, sliced cantaloupe, bits of pears, and vanilla pudding, so this one is really not much of a surprise but, still, persimmons?!?
Every time I have one, Stinky comes over and wants some, and he will not stop bugging me until I give him some of my persimmon.  Same happens with fresh cantaloupe and cooked shrimp; Stinker will just appear out of nowhere and meows until he gets some.

PayPal can be fun to talk to. Srsly.

Today was a hell-day in jedikitty's finance world; nothing seems to go right: transactions that were not supposed to happen, happened; package that I was supposed to receive was "raided" (contents stolen, all I got was a wad of bubble wrap), and then my PayPal subscription to something crapped out... again.
I checked all the odds and ends related to it, and all seemed to be in order yet, I was still a recipient of a "your payment failed" email. WTF?!?

"This house is clean"

Do you recall that famous line from Poltergeist: "This house is clean"? Well, that's what I did not say but, rather, felt after we got our heating ducts cleaned recently.

The difference in air quality became pretty evident as, upon cranking up the thermostat and pumping some warm air around, all I could smell is ... warm clean air!  No more of that musty, "old" smelling stuff coming at ya from the vents.  During the procedure, Paul listened to the sounds of "stuff" getting sucked up via giant pipe into the service vehicle, and he said it sounded like pebbles... Well, I'm not surprised; when I tried to use just the regular vacuum hose to clean as far the ducts as I could reach, there were nuts, pennies, M&M's and other candy, tiny stones, pieces of broken glass, paper clips, buttons, dead bugs, dried chunks of what might have been food... or dead mice, not exactly sure on that one, and piles of hairy, sticky dust. YUCK!!!

Food neophobia - fact or fiction?

OK, let me be prefectly clear from the start: I don't believe in "food neophobia".  At all.  I think, the psychologists out there are bored and, to find something to do at the moment, they go around inventing phobias, for a variety of reasons:
1. so people can have a name for the behavior of their fussy-eating-habits children;
2. so children have a "blanket excuse" to tell their parents when they (children) don't want to eat something; and
3. so the doctors/psychologists/shrinks out there have a new thing to "treat", and made good income of.

Let me tell you this: every, and I repeat: every kid out there will be, or at least try to be, fussy with their food, at least once in their life.  How do I know? I've raised two and, yes, they were fussy on occasion.  Would I call it a phobia?  Not a chance.  Why?  No, not because I'm unreasonable but because I'm a realist, and I tell it like it is, whether I'm making any friends, or not, by doing so.  I simply do not care for all these "phobias" being invented by the medical profession, which they seem to do at will, to name any behavioral challenge they encounter.

worst effin' migraine in my life, so far

Today I thought I was dying. Gaain. At least, for nearly a whole day I wished I was.  I've had the worst migraine I have had in many, many years... it took TWO Zomigs, a small coffee, and a bottle of yucky yet effective homemade electrolyte (my own recipe: 500ml spring water, 1 Tbsp pure glucose, 1/2 tsp salt).  Zomig is the only thing that relieves my migraines; at roughly 17 dollars a pill it better f*ckin' work.  Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor for the enlarged thus painful arteries in the brain.  Electrolyte solution is: water for hydration, salt (sodium) to balance blood pressure, and glucose is a brain food that bypasses blood-brain barrier and feeds the brain directly from bloodstream, without having to be "digested" into anything else prior.  Well, maybe weird but it worked; my 'graine is 85 percent gone, and I'm yet again well enough to tidy up the kitchen (there is a man in the house, ya know, LOL), and type away a short post for today.

CanesOral tv ad...

is awful: a "happy" woman, prancing down the street, smiling, a package of CanesOral (yep, yeast infection pill and cream) in her hand for everyone to see:  "looky here, world, I got yeast infection! But, not to worry, I got CanesOral".
What kind of utter bull is this?  Are you a man creating these godawful tv ads? Cause sure as hell you'd not be smiling if you were a woman who had a Candida infection once in her (your) life.  You'd be walking around, cussing the itch and trying to get to the nearest restroom so you can a) treat it and/or b) scratch it, and not necessarily in that order.  Are you related to the fucktards who made the "Have a happy period" ad?  Sheesh!

Oh, and what kind of a stupid name is CanesOral, anyway?   Canes?  Oral?!?
Before you named it, have you said it out loud, to check how it sounds? I bet, if you did, you'd NOT name it CanesOral.

SmellyBlog has found a new home!

Dear visitor(s),

Yeeee-haw, I found myself a home!
OK, that sounds corny but, hey, as discussed on the "old" blogsite, SmellyBlog needed to move and fast, before the domain expired so, here we are - new host, new template, new content... OK, working on that.
This is a test-post to see how the posts will look like on the new blog so, no revelations in this one but, you know me, I deliver some original, interesting, useful, controversial at times, content that, as usual, I invite you to comment on.  After all, if you "read me" and say nothing, how would I know if you enjoyed the ride, or is there something else you'd rather be reading?  Speak away, love! I dare ya!
Hugs,
jedikitty
